Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan Chennai Region came into existence in the year 1970.   Initially Kendriya Vidyalayas located in the States / UT of TamilNadu, AndhraPradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Pondicherry   and  Andaman   Nicobar Island were part of this region.  Smt. M. Krishnanand was the first Assistant Commissioner of the Region.   Subsequently, after establishment of new Regional Offices at Hyderabad,  Bangalore and Ernakulam at different paints of time, there are now 46 KVs spread across Tamil Nadu and UT of Pondicherry.  KVS Team Chennai has now 2512 teaching and non-teaching staff and 54,364 students in its fold. Sri.S.M. Saleem is leading the Team Chennai in the capacity of Deputy Commissioner with the support of three Assistant Commissioners, Sh RVSS Subrahamanyam , Sh R. Senthil Kumar and Sh. Johnson Mathew.
